COMMUNICATIONS UNIT

The Communication division of the Seneca Police Department consists of eight full-time and one part-time telecommunicators. Seneca Police Department telecommunicators work twelve hour shifts and have one of the toughest, most stressful jobs. They deal with people in crisis on an almost constant basis, and must do it calmly and professionally. They are responsible for making sure law enforcement officers, firefighters, and first responder personnel have as much information as possible about the incidents they are responding to, for their own safety as well as for the safety of those needing assistance.

Tips when calling 911:
  • Remain calm, be patient, speak clearly and courteous.
  • Know the address of the emergency and the number you are calling from.
  • Let the telecommunicator ask YOU the question.
It is absolutely essential that you cooperate with the telecommunicator. This means you should listen and answer their questions. Please do not argue when the telecommunicator insist you answer certain questions. They are trained to ask specific questions and to respond in a particular manner.
